Most Foolish Thing You've Seen/ Done

This is for anyone who wants to pitch in, but what's quite possibly the most foolish thing you've done or you have seen done?

The most foolish thing I saw was a woman who was trying to rip her music over to MP3 and was getting aggravated at the computer. When I asked her if she wanted any help, she handed me liner notes. I kid you not, she thought ripping music to MP3 was to rip the LINER NOTES and put them into her USB drive. All I did was shake my head and set her up correctly... then point her to a site where she could reprint them off, only to be told she was trying to rip the bad CDs first so it didn't matter.

The most foolish thing I did myself though, was using Dr Watson AntiVirus '99. I don't know if anyone remembers that program, but my dad bought a full 3 year sub when it came out, only to have that A/V bought out by McAfee, which refused to give us a license. Why is this foolish for me? I recommended that we bought Dr Watson. It wasn't until 2005, I could or would recommend another thing without my dad looking at me funny. (Which, ironically, was when I used Eicar to get around Norton 2005, and talked my dad into a different antivirus: Avast!. We haven't looked back since.)

Most foolish thing i've did, computer-wise, has got to be installing Bonzo Buddy when I was 8 or 9. It was rogueware by the way, and since I din't know much about the computers and there was no computer shop anywhere near I lived, my dad had to take it to a place two hours drive from my house. And the dude reformatted it and robbed us of RM 50, around 15 USD.

Wow... what a rip for you. I remember my sister downloaded Bonzo just before it was taken offline, and I had the advantage of friends that knew how to kill the ape.

Yeah. A talking purple ape. Must have been on the endangered species list. One dose of Spybot S&D and MBAm will knock the beast out.

    These days, yes.

Back then, we had to use HijackThis and a few other powertools. And even though all that, we still had parts of the ape's installers that still stuck around.

... I spat my water out on the keyboard at that. Even I never touched system files until late 2007, when I knew what I was doing

PS: don't worry, when I posted this, I had already wiped it up, so it's clean now. No damage done.

hey same with me. I too deleted out the ntldr. i found this file on the root of the c: drive and while i was removing the smnpqt0000 series files, i deleted it too, thinking that this is a by product of those files.
