What a coincidence, today 14th january is the festival of Pongal here.
Its the most important festival for farmer families like mine. Its a festival to thank god for giving us good cultivation.

P.S:- Sorry for going offtopic again. Just to share it with you guys.

Its a three day festival.
The first day (thats today), we used to celebrate it at home. We prepare a type of food named pongal from rice. We serve it before god.
The 2nd day we celebrate for cattle. We will wash cow, paint its horns, and prepare pongal before it. Thats for thanking cows for doing many works in our farm.
The 3rd day we go to relatives and friends house and have food with them.

Since tomorrow is solar eclipse, we have celebrated first two days functions today itself.

Guys we know that tomorrow is a solar eclipse to be held.. Our school also announced holiday tomorrow which is very suprising as our school didn't used to do this earlier..
News channels are also showing too many do's and dont's regarding this and also giving it the title- Maha Grahan (Ultimate Eclipse)..
So i wanted to know whats so special about this one.....?

@ranjan, ya i have heard about the eclipse too. it is being considered as the longest annular eclipse to occur this century with a duration of 11 mins 08 seconds. see here.

@kavin : looks like you had a fun day. i wish i could be a part of it. I enjoy taking part in such customs.
