Microsoft is offering $3 donations for each time that Bing is set as the default search engine by an end user.
Bing will donate up to $100,000 in $3 donation codes during the promotion. Donation codes may only be used at DonorsChoose.org and expire on August 31, 2010.”

How generous is Microsoft, they donate the faboulous prize of 3 US $ for every person who will set Bing as their default engine.
And how do they know when people set Bing search engine intead of google or yahoo for instance?
Seriosuly speaking, I would more apprecciate if a very big company like Microsoft would have donated for charity without asking for nothing in return.
They can afford it.
That should really lived up to Microsoft

actually you have to go to this page
then select choose bing and donate..
magically Bing will be set as your search engine and then follow the steps given in this page
yeah.. Microsoft is capable of giving such donations.. but, sometimes promotion + donations works for capturing market

well thank you for confirmation.
I already knew MS tracks people
My point is different: true charity is done silently, without asking for anyhing in return.
Per every person who sets Bing as a default engine MS earns much more than 3 piteous US dollars

Bing is trying very hard to beat Google.

True charity is done silently and not a truer word spoken

Hey Leo, I'm with you all the way on this one! Microsoft's so called charity is certainly less than inspiring, IMHO.
There may be a bit of snow on the roof, but there is still a fire blazing in the hearth!

Bing is my default search engine. All of my browsers supports Bing.

Business as usual. It's part of their promotional effort exposing the Bing brand to the market and as a social responsibility it continues to help more people as it continue to grow. Don't forget MS founder has already shared a lot of his money to charity and has the biggest privately owned charity called Bill-Melinda Gates foundation.

@ Ceyfer
Thank you for your opinion
I believe that marketing and charity are an oxymoron
Moreover: Bill-Melinda Gates foundation is not Microsoft Corp.
Microsoft can afford it without the need of those sad devices in my humble opinion
