Do you guys watch dramas/movies that aren't in your native language or English?
It's a simple question:
Do you guys watch dramas/movies that aren't in your native language or English?
I do for instance. I'm a Malay. Yet, aside from watching Malay shows/movies, I do watch various others in languages that I don't even understand.
I watch Chinese dramas (local ones in my country) once in a while. At times, I watch Chinese, Hong Kong movies on TV that star the likes of Andy Lau, Leslie Cheung, Chow Yun-fat etc (a few faces are familiar but not their names
) My favorite HK comedian being Stephen Chow
Currently, I''m particularly hooked on watching this Taiwanese drama called Momo love. Official homepage here.

I like the leading actress in the story - Cyndi Wang. I find her adorably cute, with her makeup on of course. Turns out to be she's a singer too.
I also am hooked on this Philippines drama called Tayong Dalawa (aka The 2 of us) that is aired on an English channel here. The leading actress, Kim Chiu, is so damn sweet, at least in my eyes.

About a few years back, I was a follower of the Philippines drama called Pangako Sa ’Yo that was aired on TV2, a Malaysian channel.
I also typically watch Tamil movies played during the weekends (mostly Saturday night) on a local channel for the Indians in Singapore. From there, I know those names like Surya, Vijay, Madhavan, Jyothika, Trisha, Tamannaah, Aasin, etc etc
Before I forget, I must declare that I largely depend on these to have English subtitles so that I can understand what's going on.
Apart from that, I usually play catching up on Hindi movies. I am a Bollywood fan so to say, although sometimes I can be a late movie-goer, usually watching the movies on VCD/DVD(s) bought by my uncle/auntie. My auntie subscribes to the Zee TV channel so if and when I drop by her house, then at times I do watch the dramas too...mostly listening to her telling me the background stories with enthusiasm. (e.g. Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka) I noticed that most of these Indian dramas typically revolve around family, love conflicts....with some protagonist (usually a female) trying to sabotage the family's reputation or steal their wealth...
When it comes to the Hindi dramas or movies, I can understand the flow of the stories even without subtitles; provided the body language and gestures of the actors/actresses give me clues on what's going on. I do understand the meaning of some of the Hindi words when they're structured in sentences but I can't do a proper word-for-word translation...too bad.
So, there you go. I'm an International drama/movie watcher. Oddly enough, I tend to dismiss watching English/US dramas or TV series/shows....except for a few that I catch once in a while (e.g Fringe, The Mentalist, Reaper etc)
I'm wondering if anyone else around here has such habits or do you only watch your native language and/or English TV series/shows? Please share a bit or 2...it'll be very interesting to know what the forum members around here like to watch.
P.S. Guilty of watching love themes 80% of the times. Can't help it...

I love watching foreign films. Especially swedish, great directing and acting. Here in the US all they do is copy everyone else's films...nothing is totally original anymore. Plus I think it's cool to watch films in subtitles and learn to understand another culture.

Most channels streamed here are English or Gaelic\Irish and then there are the ones that are streamed in French Italian and Chineese, but can be read as English subtitles, and once the story is a good one, i don't mind what language i sit and watch it in.

I watch Hindi Shows as well as English Shows.
What real made me laugh is Sindoor Tere Naam ka
This kind of Shows are all run by a single lady Ekta Kapoor daughter of famous Actor Jitendra. All Shows revolve around same kind of Story with different twists. We all hate here but Indian Womens loves to watch it :yuck:

I'd rather be fishing!
I don't even watch TV dude. Get a life please...
I guess this choice pretty much sums up my TV watching, although I do watch the news. Don't know why, because it is usually depressing.

Hi, I watch English movies with English subtitles
. I know English but I sometimes find it difficult to follow the accent in the film. I have little patience to watch dramas in my native language as they drag for two or even four years with new characters being introduced suddenly and in every episode the main protagonist (usually female) weeps and suffers and every episode ends sadly.

English is my native language and I still sometimes uses the subtitles. Back to the original question, generally I stick to english films, just do not have the time to try out new stuff (TV isn't that high on the entertainment list - rather watch some sports).
