I'll be going away and thanks to all for the good time I've had so far

I am of 19 years of age right now (20 this year) and so as per the law of my country (Singapore), all the men in the country are required to serve conscription or rather commonly known as National Service here. I have been called up to register for medical check some time back and apparently, I've been chosen to serve my NS years in the Singapore Police Force (SPF). I was expecting to serve in the army since I'm the eldest and only son in the family but apparently, things didn't turn out that way...

Anyway, I'll be going away next Tuesday on the 15th of March 2011

It's going to last for about 2 years I think...the 1st 3 months or so being some form of basic training in the Home Team Academy and then I'll be posted off elsewhere..

    More info here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_in_Singapore#Police_service

If I'm not wrong, I won't be allowed to go back home during the basic training period and only after that (when I'm posted elsewhere), I can go back on the weekends but I have to report back the day after. In any case, it'll be quite a hassle to go back and forth if I'm posted to a place far off my home. Assuming I do go back to spend the little spare time I have, I can't be entirely sure whether I'll visit/post on this forum. I'll try to but I dare make no promises.

    So, here it is:

Throughout the time I've spent here so far, I've learned a few things from those more knowledgeable than me here (especially in regards to computers) such as leofelix, hellnoire, ceyfer, and a few other members who are no longer active around here (sorry...can't remember their names now). Not to forget, our admin sir, Raymond whom I've learned more from his blog than his not-so-often posts on the forum...

I can still remember starting out from the rank of a "newbie" and then a "Tech XXX" and finally when I least expected it, achieve the recognition of being an active/helpful member with the "Star" title. From then on, upon hellnoire's recommendation, I was assigned the role of a Moderator which I must declare I didn't take seriously. I've never been the type of person who likes the idea of having to take up responsibility. Hunting around for spammers or banning troublesome members isn't exactly my thing so to say. Nevertheless, I took it up and do the little that I could manage, preferring to act as any other ordinary member. I guess you can call me the laziest Moderator ever alive. Thankfully, the rest of the Mods aren't like me....

Anyway, I wish to say thanks to all for the good time I've had so far (nearly 2 years now) and I truly appreciate the friendship/acquaintanceship that I've gained here. I've had the chance to have some small friendly exchanges (mostly in PMs, a few through IM), with a few members here, getting to know of them - their lives or past experiences, etc. You guys know who you are. Too bad I'm not so much into social networking....otherwise, we'd have been online "friends" or "friends of friends". Next time maybe...

I also wish to apologize if I've sounded rude/sarcastic or offended/hurt anyone's feelings, be it directly or indirectly, in any of my posts or PMs on this forum. I hope you guys can forgive me and that let bygones be bygones since I believe it was all in a moment of folly.

Once again, I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. I'll miss this forum that's for sure.

Hi safeguy. Although I haven't gotten the chance to know you, as I've only been on the forum for a short period of time, I did enjoy reading your posts. I wish you all the best with your National Service and hope that you will be able to find the time to drop in and say hi. Best regards, Barry

    Saving Private Safeguy

and should you meet the terrible Drill instructor Sgt Hartman, do not worry.
Just tell him you are a friend of Captain leofelix's:-P

    Joking aside.
Be proud to serve you home Country and never forget you are a human being.
Everybody can dress a uniform whilst a few persons may say that they are true Soldiers, since a true soldier never forget he/she is a human being first and foremost.

    Best of luck.

    Relax
