    I would think that you should be almost as good as the guys who actually code the virus. If you are better than them you will soon be without a job.

    I would say in general no. Code can only manipulate, change, destroy, etc. other code. I have, however, heard that if the firmware on my USB modem is destroyed or changed, it would be useless.

    we used to have a computer that got a virus and it killed the computer and in those days there wasn't any rescue discs so it became unusable. I don't think we had proper anti-virus

    You must know how to decompile virus which will tell you how the virus work. Then you must know how to code the fix.

    i think u have to an allround computrist. you should know about networking as for the firewalls and grapics designing for the creation of the interface and programming as u need to decode the virus and also know a bit of hardware as most softwares are not compadiable with somehard ware.

    u need to have a good background on these areas:

    -->Computer Viruses - Theory and Experiments

    -->Information Security

    -->Computer security

    -->Computer Virology

    ---------

    Some companies have volunteers - like me when I found a malware inside my system I sent the sample to their labs for better malware analysis.

    Some volunteers even sent trojan samples from UD sites, Most AV's now have integrated sample stats ( information security sharing ) and automatically sent the malware sample detected on ur pc to their labs
