iPhone 'officially' launched in India

Apple iPhone has been officially launched in India at midnight on 21st August.
It's gonna be an utter failure here.

The price was really shocking part of the launch.

The US price of iPhone is about
8gb - $199 i.e around Rs. 8400
16gb - $299 i.e around Rs. 12500
But the worst part is that in India it costs
8gb - Rs 31,000 (about 739 $)
16gb - Rs 36,000 rupees (about 857 $)

I just yelled wtf ?


And as in other countries, it does come locked. We have choice either Airtel or Vodafone.

People will get it from relatives in US & unlock it or get it from grey market which will be relatively a lot cheaper.

Just checked the price difference between vodafone and airtel.

Data transfer plan:
Vodafone : 25p / 50KB
Airtel: 30p/50KB

I have a relative there but I'm not in touch with him & he's not coming to India. Prices will slash soon but not by great extent. Probably the import custom duty is the culprit as the govt my consider it as a 'luxury' product.
Moreover, 3G is not yet implemented in India. It's still under trial phase.

people are crazy - there was an iphone app that was on sale for $1000 and it did nothing but displayed a picture called "I am rich" - eight stupid people have bought that app.
