Holiday Season Biggest in History for Microsoft and Xbox 360

Microsost boasts biggest holiday in history for Xbox 360.

Microsoft has taken the lid off of its recent holiday sales figures. In them, the company shows off the most impressive stats that the Xbox Division has ever put up. The strong growth comes deep in the console's life-cycle which Microsoft points to "sales execution and compelling products" as catalysts.

In the period, Microsoft claims that "Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $322 million or 9%, led by increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles sold and higher LIVE revenue". The company sold 8.2 million Xbox 360s in the period, as compared to 6.3 million in the period one year earlier.

With a steadily increasing install-base still growing, enormous domestic success with the console, and continuing strength in their subscribtion based Xbox Live service, who needs a next generation? An executive at Microsoft recently addressed the growing concerns that "core gamers" have had with the lack of exclusive titles coming to the Xbox 360.

Thanks for the news FunkY. I was planning to buy some Mircrosoft stock, but the price per share jumped on good earnings news and it doesn't look quite as compelling as it did a few weeks ago. I guess I waited too long!
