I have long been using and recommending this one to my friends.

I did not know the license is now limited to yearly basis?

It's always free for home use, as far as I know, and you can quickly sign in any time without restrictions whatsoever. Simply google its website and registration page, install, follow all instructions -- it's so user-friendly -- that's all.

Needless to say, it so differs from most software we find under the "Freebies" forum, if you know what I mean.

This is an incorrect post. K9 web protection is 100% free. You will get a license key once you register for free and you need to use that license code on a reinstall or your online account. I continue to use it on the machine i am writing this post from. Their website also says that they are totally free.
