Maybe, I don't know about that. But phishing or rogue software? I would like to see a concrete example before I condemn them.

    @Luffy: I understand completely.

    Interestingly enough, a comment on Freewarearena.com, a website run by the owner of hpHosts, claims an eBook recommended by Freewarearena.com had a virus in it (http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/freewarearena.com/comment-6381466):

    I cannot say that FreewareArena is in any way bad. What I can tell you is that I just downloaded freewarebook.exe from that sight, an ebook according to the site that they HIGHLY recommened.

    Long story short, Avast AV would not let me access the program, informing me that it was malicious. Perhaps so, perhaps not. But it gave me a bad feeling about FreewareArena.

    update 4/8/10:
    I checked out the copy of freewarebook.zip that I have with www.virustotal.com

    , a website the uses 25 or so antivirus engines to check out files for potential problems.

    Basically 64% of the engines think it is infected.
    Of course it is just one comment, but nonetheless interesting. SiteAdvisor also flags the same file (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/freewarearena.com/downloads/10823096/).

    I am not saying hpHosts, the owner of it, or Freewarearena.com are malicious but the days of my blindly believing hpHosts are over. In the past I would take hpHosts word for websites they rate. But now, after having personal experience with a company they regard as malicious, I am not so sure; their website doesn't really provide any proof either... it just says "this website is X" (unless I missed it).

    That said... enough off-topic.
