Thanks Murphy. Frankly speaking, it is beyond me why anyone would want to convert FLAC to MP3, but to each his own.

CD to FLAC would be more logically as people want to maintain the quality.

Granny's answer is the same I would have for you. Though I would have said Portable Media Player... though it's all the same, when you think about it. Also, certain devices don't support FLAC... my phone being one of them, at least, with the default music player.

It's possible, but you won't notice a difference, since now that it's the better format, it won't magically fill in the missing holes that were stripped out to make it an MP3 in the first place.

For playing it on another device, I must admit that I had not thought of that. But quality-wise, I see no advantage.

iPod doesnt play FLAC unless you convert it to AAC. I would rather have my stuff compatible across the board so I would chose 320kbps MP3 since the human ear cant detect changes above 224kbps anyways.

It is, but that is backwards. When you convert from FLAC (lossless codec) to MP3 (lossy codec) you remove bits and pieces that arent noticeable. You cant just convert from MP3 back to FLAC and fill in those missing pieces. What you can do is convert between different lossless codec types or convert between different lossy codec types.
