    Help needed please......

My daughter has a DELL Dimension 5150 PC with Windows XP home edition. We believe there may be a virus on the PC but are unable to do anything about that as when we try to log onto the internet - it comes up saying something about a problem with "Win 23" and then the mouse freezes plus another box came up with error code X0401000 saying about something not being able to be written….
She has tried to reboot with the CD Rom but again everything freezes whist in the process of doing that. We have tried PC diagnostics and everything freezes just after it starts to do whatever it does to diagnose.
Infact - everything we try end up with freezing. We have also tried rebooting in safe mode but same thing happened - it stopped/froze during the restart process.

I wondered if we got hold of another disc with Windows XP - if that would make a difference.

Does ANYONE have ANY idea as to what we could try next please? I will be most grateful.....

Well your computer sounds pretty stuffed. You may as well reinstall windows xp. When you buy PCs from Dell and HP etc. they are full of bloatwares and are stuffed so you may as well reinstall windows. backup all your data beforehand though.

Have you tried Advanced System Care to repair your PC ?

If you want to scan for viruses, try to boot using Safe-mode,or use Kaspersky Recovery CD to scan your computer for viruses and other malwares.

First of all, please do NOT double post. It confuses us on where to reply.

It's either your computer is very badly corrupted or very badly infected by virus. My advice would be try scanning your computer for any virus. Once you've done that but still unable to boot up the computer, then try to get hold of a Windows XP installation disc to perform a repair.

Download antivirus rescue CD such as Kaspersky and Avira. You'll need to burn the ISO to a blank CD and boot up the virus infected computer with it.

Here is how to reinstall or repair Windows XP.
