    Laptop Display problem

    Hi guys,

I am over at my cousins and he has got a problem with his laptop display. When he turns on his laptop after logging on, his display flickers repeatedly for several seconds then the backlight's brightness decreases significantly so that it is very hard to see the screen. But when I connect the laptop to an external monitor, the external monitor works perfectly. (the laptops display still doesn't work properly). I checked whether the problem would be solved if I connected the laptop to its charger, still no luck. I also used Fn+F7 (the keys to increase brightness on this particular laptop) but the screens brightness stayed the same.

    What can I do?

I don't know much about LCDs but it could be a problem of aging or faulty backlight in LCD.

have you tried pluging in a monitor? ,you may need a replacement inverter ,look on ebay for a replacement ,below is a guide to replacing it ,you will need the serial no off the inverter before looking for replacement

Definitely seems to be a problem of hardware i,e LCD Screen of Laptop. Could be a Display driver bug bug the chances of this are very less as the External Monitor works.

I'd recommend to get the Laptop checked and repaired by a Pro Hardware Engineer.

Hi i am bahirzaheri8's cousin. I do have the exact symptoms your website describes. But about serials? I didnt get that part . And also i am plugged into an external monitor . The flickering continues while I am plugged into the mains but not as much as it did a few hours ago. The backlight continues as normal but occasionally while the computer is idle it flickers rapidly. I will insert a picture when i get a shot. It is quite annoying.

flicker may be due to driver ,but may also be caused by the refresh rate ,try a different herz ,try 60hz this can be changed in display properties

Unlike CRTs, LCD refresh rates are optimized for a particular rate like 60 Hz. And LCDs can run at other refresh rate but it's not advisable. So probably in display properties there's only one option there.

Plus, check if the LCD is in its native resolution or not?

Native Resolution impacts the performance of LCDs. E.g Most Laptop LCDs have a native resolution of 1366X768. They won't work better in any other resolutions.
