Windows annoyances when moving directories
2 things that annoy me with Windows.
Have you ever accidentally moved a directory into another directory, without even realising it?
It's so easy to occur.
One day I had a newbie browsing my mp3 albums, but he kept accidentally dragging folders into one another.... Good luck trying to work where things are afterwards !
Windows should prompt with a message, "Are you sure you want to move this directory.... etc" .
Another thing I hate is when you've deleted a folder or a file, then later on you "Ctrl+Z" accidentally, and that recovers the deleted folder or file, without any notice! Again, it would of been nice to have a message notifying you of the move.
Ever wondered why some of your folders had missing files after a newbie has been using your pc?
One day I had someone trying make an mp3 compilation, so they made a folder on the desktop.
Then they started dragging mp3 from my mp3 drive on "E:", into their directory. That was fine, as it was copying the file (when dragging from one volume to another), however when this user started dragging from my newly downloaded mp3 albums from my C: drive, they didn't realize that the files were not being copied to their "temp" directory, but the files were being moved (since dragging within the same volume does a move, rather than a copy)....
Would be nice for Windows to have more notifications (which can be turned off if required), to prevent such accidental issues....
What do you think?

I think if you're complaining about this, you've had it happen.
But I've never had the issue with directories, nor with newbies with my desktop. (I run Linux, so if a newbie comes near, he has no idea how to use it) All it takes is a little education with the newbies so they can learn from the mistake. I have done the accidental moving before, but it's the simple Control - Z you talk about to move it back.
As for Control - Z, it's a hotkey. Mostly powerusers use them. So letting me know that I recovered hellnoire.txt would drive me batty, even if I can disable it. If you need to have your hand held for that (IMO, it's handholding), then computers aren't for you, or you should stick to using the GUI.

Would be good to know what you are undoing. How can we find out what is in the undo list in Windows?
Sometimes you have 3 things deleted, you press UNDO, and nothing seems to happen, in the attempt to restore the last deletion, but you end up restoring everything because you pressed UNDO a few times.
Is there an UNDO manager out there?
For example, I've seen "Advanced Clipboard Managers" out there.

If I'm doing an undo, I know EXACTLY why and what I'm doing. I don't make mistakes with my undo. And if I ever do, that's what Redo is for.
And under Explorer, under Edit, Undo. It shows you the basic idea of what you're undoing. But again, I think it's not worth it myself, in my opinion.
I did find an undo manager in Mac OS X though.

My 'high horse' as you call it, is also my opinion, which if I wasn't mistaken, what he was asking

IMO Mac OSX is for people who want/need their hands held. UNIX/Linux is for people who want to have some control over their machine. Windows is a popular COMPROMISE.

Indeed, I agree Polkadot. And since I'm from Linux, I hate having my hand held. Windows is a good compromise, but as I see it right now, it's beginning to take after Mac OSX in the handholding department. With the UAC in Vista/ 7... well, if you're really that desperate for to try to take after Linux/UNIX, add the password and keep it out of my way for 15 f***ing minutes!
