Help needed in shifting web host!
Hi everybody, I have a domain. I use byethost and now want to shift to x10hosting. I use wordpress as my blogging platform. When I googled about this topic I came across some cases where people lost their data and posts when shifting from old host to a new host. I don't want to lose my posts, because it will affect my pagerank. So please tell me how to shift from one host to other without losing posts and other content. Raymond! I think you've done this successfully several times. So please tutor me on how to shift web hosts.

Make a entire backup and then import the backup into your new host

Does your current and new webhost uses cpanel? You can create a full backup and then restore it back.

Yes, my current host supports cpanel. I also backed up the database and it saved as .sql. I don't know if I have done it correct. After backing up how to import? Is it through wordpress or through web host?
Congrats Raymond! You've won Chapeau Blog Award. Hearty congratulations.

Just do a full backup which will backup all your settings such as email accounts, files, databases.
Thanks for the kind compliment.

Oh no! Do not go with X10! I've used them before and trust me they're one of the worst hosts ever, they used to be so good *sigh* if only it was like the old days, now it is reallly over flowed with members.
I remember a server move in around december that was so long and unorganised, it was meant to last about a few days to a week but the effects where bad. some people lost all their files and others had half a site rather than their old one.
Now if you host a busy site i'd suggest paid hosting as they're much more reliable. but if you must go with free hosting look around a bit more. you might find a interesting one.
i'd suggest you have a look at novahost. they're very good.
