I found this site a while ago whilst looking for software. It offers Microsoft software along with other vendors software at a reduced price for UK residents only with children in school/college... rest of the world does not qualify...sorry!

As a leading supplier of Microsoft software and solutions to the student and education community, Software4Students is the largest and original programme for supplying software to school and college students and their parents.

We supply home users with fully-functional Professional (not Student and Teacher or Home Edition versions) software. Because of our affiliations with Microsoft and with education institutions, we are able to supply these products at hugely discounted prices (typically discounted by 80% or more). Put simply this means you (the home user) get more software at a much lower price.

The main requirement in this programme is that the end user licensee is a student in one of our participating schools/colleges. There are 18 million qualifying students in the UK. It is very easy to register all you need to do is give the student name and school/college they are in, provide your address details and you're done!

I don't think a proxy will work on that. When you register you will need to select the school/college your child goes to. If your friend has children and is willing to tell you the name of the childs school and he won't want to get any software for himself you can get it through him. Just remember that it is limited to 1 of each bit of software for each address registered apart from the anti virus which you can renew yearly.

Another affordable way to get Microsoft software is via TechNet Subscription. (Use promo code). Terms & conditions apply, as it's for IT pros evaluation purposes, but fully functional and non-expiring activations, even though subscription is for a year.

Another affordable way to get Microsoft software is via TechNet Subscription. (Use promo code). Terms & conditions apply, as it's for IT pros evaluation purposes, but fully functional and non-expiring activations, even though subscription is for a year.

The Technet promo has been discontinued so that is no longer an option i'm afraid.

I actually telephoned and spoke to these people today and inquired how they distribute the software and serial keys. I was informed that when you register at the site you enter the childs name and name of the school/college that they attend, once the child is confirmed to be a student at the school/college (this is done by Microsoft directly with the school) the software will be dispatched directly to you. The serial key is included with the packaged software just like it is if purchased from a shop. You are however limited to 1 copy of each product per child to prevent fraudulent purchases. An invoice is emailed direct to you and not the school/college.

Serial keys for Adobe products will require you to send proof of eligability direct to Adobe before a serial key is issued as Adobe do not check directly themselves with the school/college. You will recieve an authorization form with your Adobe product which you complete and forward to Adobe.

5 to 7 days to recieve an ordered Microsoft product is not bad if it is saving you $$$$.. it is Adobe that makes a person jump through hoops.
