Restoring Partition Images on new HDD using Macrium on laptop
hi ppl
recently i backed up all 3 partitions (including the hidden PQSERVICE, total size 160GB) of my Acer Aspire 4720G MS WinVista based laptop using Macrium Reflect free ed. i have yet decided on a good mbr backup utility since im concerned of whether it can do the job with Vista.
what i intend to do is to clone my 160GB SATA drive to my new SATA 320g drive. ive been reading all sort of stuffs from the forums and now im worried to to take the next step to do the restoration. appreciate if someone can help to guide me through to do a perfect restoration.
this is what i visualize:
1. restore partitions with Macrium Rescue Disk
- do i need to recreate the exact partition sizes on the new hdd or will Macrium do it for me?
- will there be any issues on the sizes especially since the new hdd is larger?
2. restore MBR
- since macrium doesnt do this, should i be restoring the mbr before restoring the partitions? im thinkng of using
MBRWizard but not sure of the current 2.0b ver if it'll work with Vista.
anything else that i may be missing? this is my first time backing/restoring my data and i want to be on the "safe" side. i just want to "clone" my current setup with all the partitions. Norton Ghost doesnt restore the hidden drive unless it is tweaked which is a hassle. appreciate advice/help
