She had already been convicted for previous abuses. Duh! What part of NO don't you understand? I cannot feel sorry for her, but also realize that the fine is totally unreasonable. How about settling for 1% of the fine, and stating that any future offense WILL entail mandatory jail time appropriate to the crime.
outrageous yeah. if that were the price i'd be paying billions of dollars now if i were caught
How did she get caught anyway?

Probably downloading through sources such as limewire and Emule....emule is actually watched by your own ISP. She most likely wasn't even using peer guardian to protect that connection. That's why you gotta be careful where you download.

Gotta use an ip filter. NEVER dl illegally without one, or use peer guardian.

wow shocking.
that's f'in nuts. It's ok for people to steal art(traditional and photo) and the artists of that don't get a damn dime - no one there to help them. but accuse someone of downloading a few songs and they charge you money you never make in your whole life. Those singers, musicians, or who ever made those songs already make enough to pay that bill. Screw the RIAA. They base their proceedings on IP addresses. Addresses that are dynamic through out a neighborhood, a city. My ex has gotten email from his own internet provider about them charging him with downloading batman and some other game through eMule. While he use does eMule, it's not for childish games. I was just like, "wtf?" But we are not sure if all people using the same IP address got that email.
It's absolutely rediculous what they will do to make their money.
