Symantec: it’s dangerous to rely on free antivirus

    I found this rather strange

What a load of crap, to hear that coming from Symnatec, they are no better than any other security product out there. Not to mention much higher in price. $70 for internet security that uses alot of resources. PSH.

My thoughts exactly,it seems that Symantec is getting worried about all the free ones out there now.M$ Live Essentials will cut into their profits as well.

    Post Paaleeese!!

Never mind all that sales BS-anyone with half a brain knows that's as much pure crap as the software itself.Oh,speaking of half a brain, just look at the respondents comments.I wouldn't run AVG anymore, but I sure do agree with most everything else "real users" had to say. Come on Symantec/Norton-you're living(or should I say dying) on an old name.Did I mention what crap their product is?

I think Norton is one of the best security suite , but also very expensive.I used Norton for 2 years and now I`m using Comodo Internet Security(The best Free Security).

AVG is crap now, it used to be good before 7.5 was introduced. I had their internet security for a year and some viruses weren't even detected and their "Link scanner" slowed down my browsing ALOT, the scanning was slow.

When will the day come where you can actually choose what features you want?

I don't need anti-spam for checking email, thats what my browser is for, lol. I don't need a linkscanner for site advisor to tell me if a site is good or not and that Identity theft I believe is a load of crap. You should never in the first place store private info on your computer when it comes to finances and be very cautious where you shop online.

I can't wait for the day when a company will allow customers to pick and choose what they want in computer security and then charge them a non-bloated price!

I use ESET and have used Avast in the past. I can't swear by, but I can certainly swear at Norton.Though recent updates are getting better...

I used a lot of antivirus in the past both freeware, shareware, payware and bloatware. Personally there are times when free is better than paid in terms of detection and performance. BUT there is one free product that is a BIG TRASH and is not worth being free at all.
