Is it safe to delete temp files?
I knw this is a topic askd evrywhere on d net. But i juz wanted confirmation frm ppl in Ray's forum. Is it completely safe to delete the tmp files in xp? I've around 1.2 gb of temp files rite nw in my pc - many files of size arnd 100-150 mb. Will they be needed by any software(s) in the future?
P.S. As of now, I'm a bit short in HDD space, tats y im lukin fr cleanin' stuff. So any tips other than moving the temp files to anothr location on HDD for some time are welcome..

Well for most of the files, yes it's safe. But I encountered a problem when an installation package stored it's uninstallation data in the temp folder >.> and couldn't uninstall it normally

If you ever need to uninstall software download and install Revo Uninstaller. Its freeware and i wouldnt be without it! It even uninstalled Panda Cloud Antivirus when panda hadnt even built its uninstaller in the beta mode!

It is normally safe to clean up temporary files unless you've wrongly installed software or updates in temp folders.

If in doubt, just use Windows "Clean Disk" first. That will delete the 'temps' that Windows has determined that it no longer NEEDS. You might be suprised how many bytes that will free up, without jeopardizing much else.

CCleaner is good at this(and pretty safe)Remember, moving temps to another folder won't gain any space-they might as well be in the recycle bin.If you want to spend some time and go beyond the commercial cleaner route, check out this tutorial. When you get to the list of files shown under "Make Your Own...),simply copy and paste those one at a time into Windows Search Assistant and you may delete from there.I recommend one at a time because if you search that whole batch file inclusively, the list could be overwhelming.Delete to the recycle bin and go about your business for a week or so to see if all is well.If it appears to be,then just to be safe, create a restore point and then empty the recycle bin.You can always get back the deleted items from the recycle bin from the "Recycler" folder if you act quickly before they are overwritten.

it's safe to delete them. if you are an advanced user you can manually delete it or if you are a casual user ccleaner, Advanced System Care and the Windows built in cleaner can do it for you. so far cleaning temp has never jeopardized my system

thnx fr d link mate. got gud tips in it. I'll try the recycle bin part. That seems to be the best option for me right now. I'll have to wait fr d result though..
The main files i wanted to del are .tmp files, named PR9A.tmp,PR9B.tmp,...PRA1.tmp,PRA2.tmp etc. each ranging around 100-150 mb. I'll try deletin them to recycle bin for a few days and will post the result here.
Thank you for your efforts guys..!! hope to cya arnd in this forum..!!

myadvise if can't delete these files delete the entire folder but after that create again a "Temp" folder and you shouldn't have any problem because theose files are temporaly used by some soft on your pc and the soft will create new one if it's needed
