XP desktop lost!

I have a strange problem. Few days back while logging in my XP PC, it gave an error saying desktop lost. So, it started with default desktop and all my internet setting, emails, shortcuts etc. were lost. Surprisingly, the next day it started with my old setting. Today again the same thing happened. Even though all my shortcuts are available in Documents and Settings folder it is not showing. Please help me to go back to my normal setting.

try system restore ,restore back a day before your problem started..

Thanks. How do I restore? I have not made restore disk.

Can you boot into safe mode without problem, it will have a option that for System Restore. You do not need a restore disk.

Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools and you should see it there.It will give you dates you can restore to.Hope that helps.
