    Confused RAM Doubt!!!

well i'm thinking about buying RAM tomorrow, i currently have 1GB RAM i'm thinking about adding 2GB RAM so totally 3GB RAM. But my friend says that if u have 1GB RAM u must add only add 1GB RAM, same size as the RAM u had before or if u had 2GB u must only add 2GB, otherwise it it will not have good performance...is it true

no its not ,ram must be paired must run at same clock speed and clock cycles ,buy the same ram that u have ,if your buying a 2gb stick then that needs to put in the first slot for performance ,however if u buy new ram thats faster than the one u have in the new ram will change its clock speed to match the slower ram u have and not gain any performance

also check with the motherboards manual to see what the maximum ram u can install on the pc

If your motherboard supports dual-channel, then it'd be advisable to pair it to get better performance.
