Internet Explorer 8 is taking very long to load

Over the last few weeks I have been inundated with complaints from clients saying that their Internet Explorer is taking very long to load. In most cases I found they had IE8

I would go in and install say Google Chrome and the load times for it was significantly faster.

I usually recommend to some of them to stay with Google Chrome or Firefox but unfortunately the majority of these people are not computer literate and love to keep things simple and just would prefer IE.

In the last few days something new seems to be occuring. In Canada one of our internet providers is Rogers, they provide their own "Browser" but it is built on Internet Explorer and then I had two calls from family in the USA who had AOL and it seems AOL's "Browser" is built on Internet Explorer, and they are taking long to load.

    My question is

    1) Is anyone else finding this?

    2) Does anyone know if things are building up in Internet Explorer to slow it down?

Use IE Quick Fix to reset IE settings.

I don't have any issues with IE 8 so far.

Answers like this I do not need, I assume the next thing you would say is tell the clients to buy Macs...

Thanks permalink, that is the first thing I usually do after having similiar experiences with IE7 but when IE8 came along it was INMHO faster than even Firefox and Google Chrome but something has corrupted it and slowed it down badly.

Do you have IE8 browser security add-on?

IEBlog demonstrates how to determine which add-ons are slowing down your IE page loads with a tool we wish other browsers would pick up on. -lifehacker

IE 8 is not bad at all, but you should decide exactly you want. better run it light like without any add-on's, tool bar or quick search etc etc.

Some issues with IE 8 there exists when using softwares like SpyBot Search & Destroy or SpywareBlaster or other which needs to modify some registry entries and the HOSTS file.
Some add ons and toolbars (like ask com toolbar) can cause problems to IE, like some one made you notice.
I do not use Chrome, I do not like some files like google updater and so on.
When I use a slow PC I switch to Opera 10 wich is fast and secure and does not need any add on

Don't think, its a problem with IE 8, I find no difference in speed. Might be related to malware.

@leo, i think offline installer of crome has google updated disabled/removed

and i think opera 9.x should be better for older computers (with <256 Mb RAM)

Thank you newprouser for info, but I cannot believe that all those computers are infected

and I use 5 personal computers, some of them are new and powerful but IE 8 is really slow.
B.T.W now I'm using and "old" laptop (bougth in 2003, Pentium IV 2.8 Ghz, 40 GB HDD 4.200 rpm and 512 MB DDR RAM), Opera 10 is simply perfect
I was forced to uninstall Firefox 3.5.3 here, unfortunately
