Need help accessing password locked computer

Hi Raymond. My mother recently bought a laptop at an auction. Once she got it home and powered on, it is admin pass protected. It won't let you boot from cd and it came with original install disks. I did some research and found that the only way to reset this is to open it up and short out a certain chip. Now I would rather avoid doing this. Is there another way? The laptop is a Dell Latitude D810.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Shane

not with dells ,the only other way is by a bootable floppy http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic18780.html

but if u dont have a floppy drive then its a case of shorting the chip http://forum.raymond.cc/general-forum/12483-dell-inspiron-1150-bios-password-athentication-system.html

This does verge on hacking/cracking (which is prohibited on this forum). Since you claim to have original installation CDs, my suggestion is to install disc #1 in your CD player, and reboot. Go into BIOS, and change settings to allow it to try the CDdrive FIRST. If it doesn't just jump to CD, just reboot and it should.

If you can't get it that way, then you've got a dead computer to you. From there, you could make it a paperweight...

Return to owner. Possibly the reason he sold it was that it was locked.
I purchased a used Dell and Dell support sent me the original disks. The Tech stated that normally they would not do this but she ws bieng nice.

Maybe you got a stolen PC and the guy bought the disks off the net. But I'd think reinstalling the OS in the proper manner as stated above should do it . My dell can boot the disks w/o changing boot order but that is my Dell. Well you cannot change boot order w/o a pass i don't think
