Some years ago [url=http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSguides.htm]Blackviper (classic web resource on windows tweaks) also started to feature *reg files to tweak services, you might wanna check it out (for 32 n 64 bit sp2 vista [url=http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/registry.htm]go here) it's ok i think if you're ready to digg into services if something goes wrong... Ed Bott for instance says this is snake oil...

I have went to BlackViper before but never came across that link. Didn't know Blackviper provided 'ready-made' registry keys for services lol. Thanks for that.

P.S. Regarding the snake oil thingy, well, it's up to the individual. Personally, I am not much of a services tweaker on Vista but I used to tweak my services on XP. But a word of caution, tweak/disable services only if you know what you are doing. Personally, I don't find BlackViper's recommendations 100% perfect...there are services which are necessary to start up so if needed do lots of Googling b4 u decide to disable any service. Actually, I have a list of services that I find are safe to disable but I cant remember where I kept it. Otherwise, I can share it with you tweakers out there.

Exactly, Bott suggests that starting from Vista tweaking services can be conter productive and unsafe, article [url=http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=448]here (yesterday i was too tired n couldn't find it)

On an otherwise healthy PC running Windows Vista, disabling most built-in Windows services is extremely unlikely to have any noticeable effect on memory usage, startup or shutdown time, or system performance.

but this was a recommended procedure with XP considering safety, privacy, performance n other problems not fixed by MS in that OS. BTW under Custom Services Registry File Tool at bottom u also have the [url=http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/customREG_HomePre32.php]custom *reg file i was talking about n forgot to post (url above is for default/safe *reg files) but the following is also suggested:

• Do back up your current registry settings before editing or replacing any information. This is accomplished by following [url=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;322756]this Microsoft Knowledge base or a third-party util like [url=http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/index.htm]Erunt.
• Do back up any files that you cannot be without.
• Do understand that editing the registry, no matter what method or extent, has risks.
• Do use this information at your own risk.
