My Short Review of Eset Smart Security v4, NIS 2010 and KIS 2010

Yesterday, I have the opportunity to test out the 3 suites.
Link use to test for drive by download :

    http://7 7.fskn.gov.ru/

    Taken from avast blog

WARNING : LIVE LINK WITH TROJAN!
    Eset Smart Security
Scanning speed (full scan) : Fast
    Detection :
    1. Didn't stop a drive by download with Threatsense set to high.
    2. Didn't pick up the trojan even with Threatsense set to high during full scan.
Memory usage (idle) : 50mb+ (quite high)
Memory usage (scanning) : Quite high (forgotten)

    NIS 2010
Scanning speed (Full scan) : Slower compare to Eset
    Detection :
    1. Didn't stop a drive by download with default settings.
    2. Didn't pick up the trojan with Default settings during full scan. I stop full scan as it took too long. That time, ~100k files have been scan.
    Memeory usage (idle) :~20mb
Memory usage (full scan) : ~250+mb. (That is a lot even with cleanmem cleaning out memory every 5 minutes)-More than that of Eset and KIS 2010.

    KIS 2010
Scanning speed (full scan with detection set to high) : ~ 45 minutes
    Detection
    1. Detect and block the drive by download
    2. Didn't do a scan for that trojan since it could block it.
    Memory usage (idle) : ~30+mb
Memory usage (full scan) : ~70-100+mb

    OS : Windows XP SP3 32bit
    RAM : 4gb
    Processor : Pentium Dual Core E5300 @2.60GHz

I am not bias but I wanted to see how the other suites perform since I am always on KIS 2010. I wouldn't try Norton again in the hurry but Eset maybe...

50 Mb, 70 Mb, that's lighter then most. Believe it or not, but Avast uses around 75 Mb by itself.. chances are good, I'm putting Avira on my gaming/ server desktop. 250 Mb's a bit heavy though, not as bad as it was, but still, not amazing.

I forgot to mention I don't like Norton as it deleted one of my crack without asking me.

People said the new Norton is light, I wish to differ. it is not light especially during scans!

Eset and Kaspersky perform better during scanning.

    Hi,
Thanks ,,LunarWolf,, for the info .

    ,, KIS 2010
    Memory usage (idle) : ~30+mb
    Memory usage (full scan) : ~70-100+mb ,,

I agree with you .... is almost the same at me .

,,Scanning speed (full scan with detection set to high) : ~ 45 minutes,, - here i thing that's depends on the HDD capacity ( please correct me if i wrong ).
    Concerning my :
    - OS : Windows XP SP3 32bit ;
    - RAM : 4gb ( DDR2-Dual Channel ) and
    - Processor : E2180 .

I'm glad that you confirm me some things about KIS 2010.
    Best regards !

250MB during scan? That isn't light...there's no way NIS going to my PC if that's true. KIS and Eset memory consumptions are not bad though...

I will just stick to Avira for now.

Tested the link with my KIS 2010 and it blocked it.
And the memory usage of KIS 2010 when it is idle is 20MB both avp.exe processes.

    Don't look here!
