Microsoft Apologises
Somedays back Microsoft has pulled their new Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) because of allegations that WUDT contained code from ImageMaster, a GPLv2 licensed open source software.
The issue was not the fact that Microsoft took code from ImageMaster, the source code of open source software are there to be used by all. The problem was that if Microsoft did in fact take the code, Microsoft did not abide by the conditions set by the GPLv2 license which says if you use the code of a GPLv2 licensed software, you must
1.Keep the license of the resulting software as GPLv2 also and so free to all;
2.Provide the source code for the resulting software.

As a result microsoft was forced to pull back WUDT.
And now, Microsoft has issued an apology and is going to offer the source code for WUDT as per the GPLv2 guidelines.

I'm not surprised. The OSS community looks at Microsoft as if it's welding a hammer over their heads... though not to say it's unfounded or anything...

Sometimes even the giants have to be humble when they take something from the little guys.

hehe, gotta love how they fail. I'd imagine if you could look at more source of any of their programs it'd look oddly familiar to other stuff... but you can only hope...
