Unplug the power cord, then hit the power button. Then try plugging it in and booting again.
This helps if there is a build up of electrical power in the box. Seems to help me at times.

Looks like you'll need a new power supply then. Then you can get more power into the computer and can run more.
Had the same issue running a video card, two SATA hard drives, one IDE, and several USB ones. Unplugged the IDE and it booted fine.

Similar problem.
I have a similar with my acer aspire M1640. Unfortunately, i opened the box and made several upgrades (cpu, ram and video card) so it's not covered by warranty anymore. I turned it on in the morning and it worked fine, turned it off to head out and do some things around town but upon returning home to try and use it, it wouldn't work.
On power-up, I can see the power button light up and the CD-rom also trying to do its thing. Except I don't have anything pop up on my monitor and there's no PC beep at all.
I have tried flashing the bios, unplugging every piece of hardware that wasn't factory standards, removed the RAM and powered it up to see if it'd go off its head beeping (it didn't) and I have tried unplugging the power source and pushed the button in but that didn't help either.
My theory is somehow the motherboard just shit itself and i'll have to buy a new one. But if anyone else has any other ideas, please post away!

My PC is at the repair shop at the moment
They say that the problem was caused by a dodgy PSU that Acer installed which blew up my motherboard and CPU
