How do you give a higher priority to a process not running yet?

I got the game fuel for christmas from my kids,my graphics card will run it fine wirh all settings maxed out but my cpu is only a single core 2.8ghz,while fuel is better designed to run with 2 cores or more,It will run but is slightly jerky now and then, having looked on line for patches or fixes,I came accross the only one i think that seems to work, which is to give fuel.exe a higher priority,as it loads up with low priority, the problem is when i run fuel,i cant get back into task manager, windows key wont work nothing i do will get me back in,if i try to run fuel.exe on its own,i get a message saying that i have to use games for windows live to run it.
So Is there a way to make fuel.exe start with a higher priority.
    Thanks Richard.

    There'd be http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Other-Desktop-Enhancements/Applications-Priority-Master.shtml

Alternately, you could write a simple batch file located in said folder. For example, if you want to run firefox.exe at a High priority, save a .bat file using notepad with the command "start firefox.exe /high"at the folder where firefox.exe is located (C:\Program Files\Firefox), where you can set the priority to /low, /normal or /high.

The right tool for that would be either Process Lasso or Process Tamer...I'm currently using Process Lasso on my Vista...I've not tried Process Tamer yet but the experts agree it's a nice tool..

Lifehacker has reviewed Process Lasso here:

Corral CPU Hogs with Process Lasso

Ashraf has reviewed Process Tamer here:

Monitor, manage, and control CPU usage of individual programs/processes with Process Tamer

In fact Raymond had made a post about it here:

Automatic Lower Process Priority When CPU Usage is High

Another alternative is Prio...but it's not freeware and it doesn't support Vista/Windows 7...

Permanently Set Process Priority in Windows Task Manager with Prio

    Hope that helps...
