I'm beginning to have respect for 4SysOps
Sorry guys...please don't mistake this as an advertisement or anything like that. I'm in no way affiliated to 4SysOps but I've just found this site moments ago....
What's inspiring to me is how the writer/author has original posts that has his or her own views put across....he doesn't blindly 'follow the crowd'...he makes judgments and reviews based on his own experiences and what he thinks is right...
And surprisingly, I find that I've agreed with him and his views often although some 'fanboys'...be it for security software, OS (Windows, Linux, Mac) or browsers (Firefox, IE, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari) might disagree and be offended by his not-so-typical and out-of-the-line articles such as these:
==================================================
Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been?
-This one is a must-read for those of you who are praising Windows 7 like it's a gift from God and bashing Vista like it's a gift from Satan
It points out stuff that I've been thinking all these while...the hype regarding Windows 7 that's made by the media and journalists/bloggers - is it really justified or is it simply a 'monkey see monkey do' practice...are the so-called techies simply 'copying' the words "Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been" without doing proper testing or researching???
====================================================
Why Firefox 3.5 doesn’t rock, and about the childish obsession with browser performance
- Another must-read for those of you who simply and blindly keep on saying 'improved performances' whenever Firefox updates....wake up guys!!!
===================================================
Why I don’t wanna be a Mac
- I wouldn't call this a must-read for those of you who don't give a damn about OS fan-boy fights and arguments....but if you do, then read-on....unlike most other Windows purists who refuse to use a Mac...the reason he gives has "nothing to do with OS features, overpriced hardware, or the ecosystem"....in fact, it's the “I am a Mac” adverts that he "finds quite repulsive"....
==================================================
And as I've said earlier, some fanboys might be offended by such articles...but that's nothing to be proud or ashamed of...and here's a good article for all of you who has once declared yourself as a fanboy (be it for ANYTHING)....
The truth about fanboys
- This article is VERY interesting...a unique way to look and understand our individuality and why we are sometimes 'attached' to a particular 'something'....till it drives us to be 'fanboys'....
Now I'm no longer ashamed to call myself a fanboy...it's natural. There's nothing wrong about it
====================================================
P.S. Most of the articles were written by Michael Pietroforte....and I'm beginning to respect him as much as I respect Raymond....it's not easy for me to pay respect to others you know

Sorry but I've got to bump this thread (I think people missed it somehow) as I want to hear others' opinions on the articles made...what's your viewpoint???
P.S. Please don't hastily make comments without reading the articles...

I read his article on Windows 7, and I do disagree. I've had a lot better performance since I've gone to 7 from Vista.
Heck, battery life jumped from an hour and a half to two hours.
To me, he's not 100%... but I must admit, I agree on the Firefox points. It's not faster. I've noticed no speed increase... if anything, I've noticed it just has pretty new features. Period.
The ads of Apple... don't get me started on them. Why do you think I first downloaded AdBlock Plus? The only ads like Apple's I like are the Linux ones... lol.
The only thing I could say about the articles though... some of them are short and don't have much oomph behind them. The Fanboy one you linked is like that... it barely gets the point across, he wrote so little.
But... to each their own poison and wine.

The author do have some points about the Windows 7 hype and the bashing of Vista. As clunky as the Vista might seem, it still made the foundation for 7 to build on, BUT...
...saying Windows 7 is just a great service pack for Vista is an exaggeration. In my experience, the leap from Vista to 7 is farther than the leap from Win 95 to Win 98.

Indeed, it's more like Windows 3.11 to Windows 2000, if you ask me.

Safeguy,
I like the way that guy thinks... for himself.
Very nice articles on Win7 and Firefox 3.5. He makes very good points.
I sorta suspected Win 7 was akin to Vista SP3.
And the fanboy article is funny and quite insightful.
The guy's an self-honest critical thinker... whether he's right or anyone agrees with him don't change that.

I guess some of you missed the point...you didn't get what the author's saying
You see, he's didn't say that Windows 7 has less performance than Vista. On the other hand, he said that "Windows 7 is the best operating system that Microsoft has ever produced"...
The points of the article is that:
1. Windows Vista is the new operating system by Microsoft...and they had done a great job with it at least in terms of security point of view.
It was a drastic change from XP not just in terms of looks but security-wise too. The UAC was introduced in Vista to build upon Windows security structure..although unfortunately not many users praise them for that. Instead, most users were "surprised" with the introduction of UAC (there wasn't UAC in XP) and found that they were not comfortable with it...most went to criticize MS as the UAC was "annoying".
2. Windows Vista (being a new "restructured" operating system) was a poor release due to compatibility issues which were unavoidable such as:
- software incompatibility
- missing device drivers
- high hardware requirements
Therefore, it had to take all the bashing...However, most of these issues (if not all) were resolved thanks to time..
3. Windows Vista had actually "paved the way for Windows 7" (or as biscuits said "Windows Vista had build the foundation for Windows 7")
Windows 7 is a great service pack for Vista...
I think, if there hadn’t been the Vista bashing hysteria, that Microsoft would not have rebranded Vista and Windows 7 would be just Windows Vista SP3.
every new operating system had significantly higher hardware demands than its predecessor. It was always like this. The fact that this isn’t the case with Windows 7 only proves that it is not a new operating system version, but just a great service pack. 4. Windows 7 success would not have been as hype or widespread if not due to Vista's "failure"...
If Microsoft had not made those critical missteps in the development of Windows Vista (which I think was unavoidable) and had taken more time to release a less "annoying" UAC and a more compatible OS, then Vista would have been a marketing success. In that sense, it is right that "Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been"...
Conclusion:
Windows 7 is Windows Vista optimized, with a less annoying UAC, and better compatibility...and on top of that with added features (or 'gimmicks' as the author mentioned although I would prefer the word 'features')
Windows 7 looks and feel like its a new operating system...one that customers would feel more comfortable with...but without Windows Vista, its success might not have been the way it is today...
Kudos to Vista
And of course, Windows 7 too
P.S. Did I make it sound clearer or am I making it more confusing?

Nope, very good un-packed synopsis of the points he made.
