Move whole User folder into another partition - Vista
Hi
How do I move my whole User folder in vista to my partition?
I partitioned my C:/ drive to be ~50GB and my D:/ drive to be 240GB. I want to move my User filder into D:/ so I get more space
How can I do that?
Thanks

Use Richcopy which is a microsoft app useful in copying large files.

It looks REALLY complicated. In the instructions, it says I have to create 2 user accounts and do some stuff
Isnt there a simplier way? And isnt long winded?

@Mark
Try this instead:
Move your user files and folders to another partition
Or this (same trick):
Vista Hands On #7: Move user data to another drive
I did that on XP last time (and am trying it out on Win7 as I write this)
It's far easier than to meddle around with the registry (although that is the "better" option)...the only thing is I suggest you don't move the entire User folder..instead move only certain specific folder inside the User folder...
Move these folders only:
Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos.
Don't move these folders (leave them alone):
Desktop (although if you want, you may. I wouldn't recommend it as some apps still produce shortcuts to the 'old' directory & you would have two places for shortcuts...messy)
Favorites, Links, Saved Games and Searches
Stick to this rule and you're fine to go.
The only thing is it's best to be done after a clean install (before you install other apps). However, if you've already had installed programs (like me
I forgot to do it lol..luckily you bring this topic up), then some apps might still refer to the 'old' directory (for e.g. downloads)...if that's the case, then you have to find the option to change the directory & point it to the new one...
