Singularity is an experimental operating system being built by Microsoft Research since 2003. It is intended as a highly-dependable OS in which the kernel, device drivers, and applications are all written in managed code.

Thanks, this is still a relevant thread.

Microsoft reportedly will finish work on Windows 8 by summer and release the operating system sometime around October.

I don't think I will be buying Windows 8 for my PC. I really like Windows 7 and have things just how I like them. Maybe when Windows 9 rolls out and I'm thinking about building a new PC I will consider it.
