retrieving data from old o/s hd via new o/s and hd
hi.
i recently installed a new (and larger) hd w/xp.
my old hd still has a functioning xp on it, but i wanted to click and drag selected data over and paste it to my new hd.
but when i open this drive up (as a slave) via my new hd, no data appears.
so - how can i make the data appear on the old drive, so that i can complete my mission?
thanks in advance.

ps: the old drive got locked into a perpetual cycle of rebooting, so i just replaced this 7 year old drive with a new one. but i would like to salvage my latest data (some mp3s and jpegs) if at all possible.

Pc Wizkid & Programmer :)
goto start ,run type diskmgmt.msc ,u will see your old drive there ,right click that drive ,select add drive letter or assign drive letter ,now it should appear in mycomputer
Out of my mind. I Haven't Lost My Mind, It's Backed Up On Disk Somewhere.

tango mouse.
the drive already appears on 'my computer.'
the problem lies with the fact that the drive i am trying to open already has an xp os already installed and i dont think it is allowing me to see the document files because a cursor 'roll-over' indicates that nothing is there (nothing in the file). and when i open it, a pop up window says that 'access is denied.' so i think the files are incripted with the previous o/s and won't allow the files to be shown because a password difference - even tho it is the same password as before.
so, how can i access my data on my old hd via my newer drive so i can then transfer that data over?

Try using a Linux LiveCD, such as Ubuntu, and burning it to a disk, to do a liveCD copy. You just open the drives in Ubuntu and drag and drop between the two.
pacman -Syyu life not found in sync db

Can you still boot up your old hard drive as master?
If yes, connect the old one as master, new one as slave and boot up the windows from master.
You should be able to access all your old files from your old drive.
Now copy/move whatever files you want to your new hard drive.
If you're unable to boot up your old drive, you'll need a linux livecd like hellnoire suggested because linux bypasses all windows file permissions.
