help-computer hibernates randomly
hi guys.
i use windows 7 32 bit and according to windows update, my laptop (hp pavilion dv2000-core 2 duo, it had vista originally) is upto date.
now i have this strange problem that my pc hibernates itself at seemingly random times without warnings.
so no data loss(thank god) but its just annoying.
ps. this problem never happened when i used to have windows vista
. but i am sure the installation was correct.
pps. i may not be good at computers but i have a really strong hunch( with no proof to back it up) that this is a defence mechanism for heating.
so can some1 help me?(ocrz thats the reason i posted :P)
but please also try to answer these:
1. is my hunch right? (if yes, how to keep laptop cool? - i do ensure that nuthing blocks the holes by putting it up on two bookstacks)
2.i m pretty sure the installation was correct and so i would rather avoid formatting, so what else can i do?

Try using a fan for laptop, for instance by Zalmann.

I'd suggest you to try disabling hibernate and see what happens.

I encountered that before on Vista but I can't remember exactly how I 'solved' the problem...(I'm guessing it was a reformat)
As for your hunch, I believe you're probably right...laptop overheating may cause random hibernation at times...and even worse BSOD. If heat is really the problem, why not try cooling down your laptop with a laptop fan (but make sure you buy a reliable one..i didn't and i regret it
)....
But before you do that, I agree with Raymond that you should try disabling hibernation and then re-enable it. You may also want to try changing your power plan settings in Power Options (it's in Control Panel)...see if that helps.
If all else fails, then a reformat is the way to go.
P.S. A random Google search also leads to this:
"uninstalling power management drivers, then reinstalling them etc"
You may want to try that too...
They call me the mysterious one...
my motto is...when it's hot, chill baby

You can use Speedfan to monitor the temperatures of your laptop

Thanks Dorkiss, it is a great share...
well i read the site and it looks good for PCs only, how abt laptops?

I used to use if for my Dell laptop and it seemed to run temperatures fine.
Now I use an unoffical Dell Laptop Fan Utility. Odd thing is Speedfan would max my fans out at 3100 rpm, and this other utility maxes them out at 5500 rpm.
Don't know why. The Dell laptop Fan is for DELL LAPTOPS ONLY, of course if you want to guinea pig your PC/laptop feel free to tell us the results
p.s. I turn the fans on when playing games...

it happened again! wvwn with hibernate turned off!
ps. i know my pc does get temperature highs but being a minor with parents who take no interest in pc's, investing in a fan or anyting else is not an option
