    Easy one... MKV.

It has half the size of AVI and all the same quality.

Also, to open it, VLC does the job really well.

    Thanks hellnoire ,

Which is a good mkv converter ...?
    Any stand alone tool ...

I have used mkv conversion module in Format Factory and it does a decent job .

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but Format Factory was going to be my recommendation as well. I don't know any others that could do it for free. Handbrake, maybe.

I believe Avi is fine.. its playable in almost all the players and many of the conversion tools support avi.

AVI doesn't compress very well without quality loss, and while FLV does, it looses a LOT of quality.]

MP4 is iffy at best, I never recommend it though because it requires ties to Apple.

I've used all three, and I'll always go back to MKV. Because simply, it's the smallest size with the least amount of compression loss in the actual video.
