I know it's done by a script, more then that... wouldn't know, since I have no background in Javascript or anything like that. And C#/VB.NET can't do that to my knowledge.

it also won't save much energy as 90% use LCD displays which are light all the time even if it is black

Just use .htaccess and redirect all page request to a html with black background.

I guess this one also pops out just like when you open the attachments here on raymond.cc forums. The only difference being that this one covers the whole screen, while the attachment is a pic which appears in the middle of the screen.

It's fake
It doesnt save energy lol
The only way to save energy is to turn off your monitor
I believe it's flash which done that. To my current knowledge, I only know that flash detects tab/window changes and can change the content. (As this is used in many flash games where if you go to a different tab or summin, the game pauses)

I don't know if it is a myth or a fact that a black colored background saves little energy compared to white.
But I know the plain black background that I use does not strain my eyes so much if compared to white.

I think that would only happen if the text are gray in color. It must be pure white to make the text readable.

I second that. I always feel uneasy to read things with black background. May be it differs from person to person.
And about "energy saving", i don't know about LCD, but in CRT monitors, it won't save your energy a bit. Its just a myth.
