    sata controller problem

Today i decided to reformat my pc ,my system has 4Hds 2 Sata ,after formating i had a spare DDR 256 stick and decided to stick it in

this is where my problem started ,2nd Sata drive wasnt reconised in bios ,so i removed the new added mem stick ,still not reconised so i removed the sata cable to my 2nd drive and stick it in pri sata slot ,its reconised it ,windows started up ,because this drive is in pri sata slot ,i needed to install drivers for the promise fasttrack 378 Tx2 plus ,in windows 7 theres no driver ,so installing win2000 driver works or did ,"cannot start this device" ,now am pritty sure ive lost my 2nd sata slot because even my main sata drive doesnt get reconised in this slot and its looking like ive done damage "some how" to the sata controller ,ive spent going on 12 hours sorting this and now i am at wits end! ,does anyone have any ideas? ,pri sata running in ide mode ,swapped cables ,u name it! ,even re-solded the 2nd sata slot ,anybody know of any sata controll testing software?
Out of my mind. I Haven't Lost My Mind, It's Backed Up On Disk Somewhere.

I had a similar problem with my SATA controller when I upgraded to Windows 7. I have an Intel motherboard, so I went to their website and ended up downloading the SATA contoller for Windows Vista, because they weren't supporting 7. Once I installed it, everything started working normally. Of course, I didn't have a RAM issue.

I dont think its a driver issue because i know its win2000 driver that works in win7 and has done in past, and cant be ram as i have removed the affending stick! ,i could have moved the port when inserting the ram which may have caused some dammage

Tommorrows another day ,I have just googled the pinout of sata port so tommorrow ill test the port with a multimeter ,am tired and ill start again tommorrow ,hopefully with a fresh n clear mind. i may even install xp to be 100% sure its faulty
