Big Grin BumpTop 3D Desktop acquired by Google - download FREE Copy until May 7

BumpTop 3D Desktop acquired by Google - download FREE Copy until May 7

    Dear BumpTop fans,

More than three years ago, we set out to completely change the way people use their desktops. We're very grateful for all your support over that time — not just financially but also through all the encouraging messages from people who found BumpTop inspiring, useful, and just downright fun.

Today, we have a big announcement to make: we're excited to announce that we've been acquired by Google! This means that BumpTop (for both Windows and Mac) will no longer be available for sale. Additionally, no updates to the products are planned.

For the next week, we're keeping BumpTop Free available for download at bumptop.com/download to give BumpTop fans one last chance to grab a copy.

Existing BumpTop Pro users should visit bumptop.com/pro for more information.

We recommend you save a copy of the latest installer in case you wish to reinstall BumpTop in the future. This page will only be available until May 7 2010.

May 3 update: New download links are posted below which should improve the download speeds.
    Download link (Windows)
    Download link (Mac)

BumpTop debuted in April 2009. The software, which runs on top of Windows and Mac OS X, allows files to be thrown into loose piles, tidied into neat stacks, or fanned out like a deck of cards.

So, if you want to grab a free copy, hurry.

It's own OS is Linux based... I can't see it working like that.

May be they would re-sell that business, putting a Google Tag- which would earn them a lot..

I've read about this on TheWindowsClub earlier on...my guess is Google's trying to stop Windows and Mac users from 'enjoying' BumpTop's 3D-style of desktop while creating and incorporating a similar feature into their own OS...heck, I've just created another conspiracy theory

OK, let's get serious. Perhaps Google's trying to be "kind" and release BumpTop under a new name...seriously BumpTop while being innovative and creative, it hasn't been able to attract many loyal users to it...however, with Google's name added to it later on in the future, it might create a new spark/wave of excitement...just another theory of mine...

Update: Just read this: Google buys BumpTop, could target 3D interface at iPad

P.S. The last time I tried BumpTop, I swear it was buggy as hell...but that was during the beta stages.

Nice info Safeguy. I pretty much doubted abt this:

BumpTop's technology will be incorporated into Chrome OS, bringing an advanced user experience to future tablets, whether this is licensed to third party device makers, or Google decides to repeat its Nexus One gamble with an own-branded 'cloudbook'.

I haven't tried this yet, and haven't found any answers, but is it limited to which OS it can be installed on?
Also, this page http://eol.bumptop.com/pro.php says, "End-of-life support will only be provided for BumpTop Pro users. Please enter your BumpTop Pro Key below to continue to the support page."

Do we get a pro key , or is it pre unlocked, and as is since it's a freebie?

    Thanks
