    Web Of Trust

    Hi All
Can i get some opinions on WOT... i have heard great things about it and downloaded it on Murphy's recomendation. (i trust this guy)..

Do members here believe it to be accurate and fair ?
I remember my ISP's home page getting a low rating which really surprised me but since then i have tried it again and it came up with a clean bill of health

Can it be manipulated by users or more so by companies...
i respect the forum so i would not put links to any software sites that are not approved..
the point is im looking for opinions and clarity... a coment from Safe guy would be really welcome...

Sorry folks if this post should be somewhere else i was hoping for a debate and to weigh up over-all

As you may know WOT is a community-based security tool. This means that everyone is free to rate a site the way he wants. Therefore you shouldn't trust WOT ratings 100%. EX: WOT may give poor rating about a torrent site considering that this site provides warez. This doesn't mean that this site is harmful right? The best thing you should do is to read the comments when you find a poor-rated site by WOT on your way browsing. Most users explain their reasons about the rating they give.

WOT is a community based add on, several security experts contribute to it (like HPhosts, SpamHouse and several others), some security companies like Panda Security partnered with WOT.
While for instance Mcafee siteadvisor is updated only every 6 months and it is mainly based on McAfee antivirus detections as far as I know

That's why I prefer WOT and I'm a WOT member too.
If you believe a webpage is rated as malicious by mistake you can change your rating and if necessary join their forum and inform other experts.

    WOT member.

WOT is a community based "TRUST" reputation browser plugin. It or the community rates each website according to user's experience ( based on different criteria ).

The setback is, it also prone to false positive ( human reporting errors). Be wise! and don't forget to read each and every details on a rated website : see WOT reputation score card.

I have always found it reliable

And you can always check the user comments for a more thorough investigation of the site

    Hi,
    Thank you .

    About ''MyWOT'' ----> Here
    Manipulation
There is a potential for users trying to manipulate the system, because ratings can be submitted on the add-on without having to first register an account.[6]

    WOT tries to prevent manipulation
by assigning a pseudonym for each add-on and requiring strong authentication for each rating. Together with the meritocratic trust system[7], this aims to make gaming the system more difficult. The rating system also uses algorithms that monitor for abnormal rating behavior if the architectural measures alone fail to stop manipulation attempts, however, system manipulation is still theoretically possible, and is the source of criticism toward WOT.[8]
    Best regards !

The review on WoT does suck sometimes. Green and Red are all over.

Now this is interesting. Because SpyShelter is an partner of plimus.com.

sites engaged in the selling or distribution of bogus or fraudulent applications

This classification is assigned to site's being used for the distribution of "rogue" security or other such applications, for example: SpyFalcon, SpywareQuake, AdwareAlert etc.

    I do not use SpyShelter
I have installed it once and my PC crashed.
However SpyShelter web page is rated as Green by WOT and they offer a free version as well
