Slow when shutting down!
Hello,
I am facing really a boring issue with my current Notebook, it takes so much time to shut down that it is going to be annoying, it takes up to 5mins or even more till it shuts down which makes me nervous because it does not lack on performance (it has a Core2Quad Processor, and 4 GB RAM, with an Windows 7 x64 running on it) but still it is slow and that every time, after a clean reformat I did 2-3 days ago it was ok but now everything has changed like it was earlier (before the reformat I had the exact issue and I just want to say that I am NOT or WAS NOT INFECTED with any type of malware), I suspect an update (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB973923)) which could cause all this mess but I am not completely sure because before I had applied that update everything was working well and smooth without any problem, but now it is unacceptable (at least for me) waiting for more than 5mins till it shuts down, and regarding this problematic situation I am looking for help for more experienced users like you.
P.S I also should mention that I had also removed the above mentioned update completely, but without success the issue is still present, and I hate it.

Thank You for your reply,
If you mean if it is working more than when it was shutting down correctly and instantly then yes.

I think hellnoire is asking you what programs are running when you shut down, check task manager to see what is running... processes/applications after you have exited your desktop programs and ready to shut-down... before your pc will shut down windows will wait untill tasks are complete and this could be one of your problems...
what was the last app you installed before Microsoft visual C ++2005 service pack

I do not understand you fully, the part where I have to wait so long is when I exit windows by pressing "Shut down" then wait a little bit until it shows me "Windows is shutting down.." and then just hope that it turns off as soon as possible.
The last app I installed before MS Visual C++... I think was WLM.

I don't have a 7 machine near me but probably you can use Windows built-in tools to troubleshoot.
>Win+R>compmgmt.msc>Event Viewer>Services and Applications>Microsoft>Windows>Diagnostics-Performance>Operational
Now check for relevant log, Windows should identify the faulty driver, process, service...

That's exactly what I'm asking. If you run many applications or have many services going in the background when shutting down, you're going to have a slower shut down.

Windows 7 is very good about about creating a System Restore Point before you install new software, so have you checked to see if you have a Restore Point that predates your installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package? Just a thought.
There may be a bit of snow on the roof, but there is still a fire blazing in the hearth!

No I did not set windows to do this, could you give me some more info, where should I look at to see if it is enabled?

I already have checked this part and I could see many Error or Critical Events but regarding boot and shut down I could not identify the issue!!

Expect the MS services, I currently have 10 services actively running, maybe this can cause the problem...
And also which MS services can be safely disabled?

I just checked it now, and I think I can restore at the time before installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package, but I do not think that this can fix the issue because also after I had completely removed that app I had long shut down delays...
