AMD Slashes Prices on Selected CPUs

I know it 2 days old news but may be still useful for someone

AMD has ever so quietly updated its CPU pricing list, dropping the price on several of its processors. But which ones, you ask? Well, read on to find out.

This round of CPU price cuts affects just a few desktop processors. According to Tech Report, the biggest drop was on Athlon II X4 640, which was cut by $22, from $122 to $100 per 1,000 units.

Two Phenom IIs had their prices cut by $20; the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition fell from $165 to $145, while the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition dropped to $165 from $185.

Four more processors also saw their prices drop, with the Athlon X2 255, Athlon X2 260, Athlon X3 445 seeing drops of $3, $7 and $10. Their respective prices now lie at $66, $69 and $76. The Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition saw its price fall to $93 down from $103.

Digitimes cites sources in the motherboard industry that the cuts are a defense against competition from Intel.

Cool! This will mean that low end systems will be even cheaper! (Well, they should be)
