see this Mercury site and search your product category, Mainboard-->P4 Socket 775 --> PVM7 Pro V3.0 and download the audio driver realtek, another option is go to control panel-->admin tools-->component services-->services(local) click it then look for Windows audio see if it has start.

Just a suggestion cybercop, but if you have an open pci slot on the back of your computer, you could purchase an audio card, like Soundblaster, which might be a cheaper than taking it to a service center. I did that exact thing on my pc and was much happier with the audio quality of the Soundblaster card, than the built in device that came with my PC. You would just need to disable the old sound device and un-install the driver software before installing the new device.

Here is some info on the sound card I use. I have my stereo speakers hooked up to it through an RCA jack and the sound quality is very good! I'm sure even decent PC speakers would work OK. http://us.store.creative.com/Sound-B...B000LP0R3E.htm I can only comment on Soundbalster, because thats all I've ever used. They have a number of different sound cards at various price ranges and you would just need to decide for yourself, on how much you wanted to spend. I would check out a number of online retailers to find the best price. Amazon.com seems a bit high to me.

As far as disabling the sound device, simply go into control panel, device manager, sound, video and game controllers, click on the little arrow to the right of the text to open it, right click on the device you wish to disable, click on properties, click on driver, and then disable. You can also choose to uninstall the device, in the same dialog box as properties, but that would be up to you. Personally, if the device is not working, I would uninstall it myself, so it didn't create any future conflicts.
