Hi Funky great post and im happy to see you doing such a great job..
Like you i have tried quite a few and few mixed results, nothing substantial and i wonder what the trade of is with installing all these optimizers,
in 2004 i found a thread and maybe some one could remind us of a good one where the tweaks where applied manualy and you could speed test your internet on the same page.. lucky for me my broadband connection now is really good as far as im concerned 24mb download speeds (in my dreams, but it is supposed to be) and unlimited download usage..i use an add blocker and flash blocker as i think this is helpful
for me it was trial and error and ended up with a mixed bag of results but nothing to shout about
keep going Funky

In my experience, some of the accelerators do good, some do so-so, and some are bad (see Uniblue).
No-one or program can know my system as well as I do. If I get enough information, as I do here, I can pretty much tune my own system to my own needs.
Yes, I might miss some esoteric modification sitting in the corner, but nothing major.
Another view is if you allow a program to make changes to how your computer operates, how sure are you that you can fix what it may have broken.
Better a slightly slow computer than one that can't boot.
A better method is to read the documentation on the accelerator program, find the proper settings yourself and do it. Thant way you know what you did so you can change it back.
As usual, IMNSHO!

Thanks for your post FunkY! I have used internet accelerators myself with mixed results. They do make a difference on my PC, whereas not much on my laptop, which is much newer. Like Jay, I have tried manual adjustments also, with mixed results. A lot depends on the time of day you go on the web. Around here, the evening hours are much slower because of all the traffic on the web. I have learned to download larger files, like the Linux Distros I'm fond of playing around with
in the off peak hours, because it makes a huge difference on the amount of time it takes.
There may be a bit of snow on the roof, but there is still a fire blazing in the hearth!

Thank you funky. When I was new on the pc I have used this type of several accelerators or net tweakers, some times it worked some time not. Now I can realize the thing is actually we can improve the performance by changing the value of such things from registry editor or by application. Such vaules are dnscahce, tcp/ip prameters etc. But each value has an optimum limit so if any application try to set this value over the optimum level it not gonna work. But I'm not talking that you can't change the value, you can but upto optimum level if you want good performance. The application which sets the optimum value will work fine. For example you have 2 Mbps connection that means you can download at 256 KB/s max (you can have more if there is problem in server this is exceptional. Like some time in cable broadband.). But you want 512 KB/s download speed so now you can understand that is not possible. So these are the conditions, so don't think all accelerators will improve because there are some limitations.

I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

The only thing that I've ever used that might be considered an accelerator is Google's which was pitiful at best. So I don't use any now.

I use TCP Optimizer (3.0.3) for optimizing my internet connection and have seen significant difference than default.
Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x86 + KIS 2011 (11.0.2.556 b.a.c.d) + Sandboxie Paid (3.54) + Deep Freeze Standard (7.20.020.3398)

I tried a number of optimizers over the years but only found one that really made a difference last month when I picked up a free license for Internet Cell Boost from HERE
The developer put a comment I made on their product page HERE
Like the few optimizers that do make a difference it varies from system to system and from OS to OS.
What caught my eye and made me try this one was a comment by the developer that XP was created at a time when current connection speeds were unheard of and so it was not designed to deal with them effectively.
I have never used any other Window's OS but would be very surprised if you could get the same level of improvement on anything later.
