Cool Why do you trust WOT?

The idea of a community based scorecard for websites may seem okay, but in actuality it's very flawed.
For example, I went to a couple of sites called leawo.com and imtoo.com looking for a good DVD ripper. Leawo has a spotty record while Imtoo got blasted with negative scores. I know for a FACT that Imtoo is NOT malware of any kind. Not unless NOD32
    has made a terrible mistake...
Guess what. McAfee SiteAdvisor says they are both clean.
Arcade™ and lostdewind88 say they contain malware.
    Who are these people? (kids?)
    What is their expertise?

My question is, why does anyone even waste their time with WOT?

Due to human error. The problem is WOT is just a scoring platform. No further evaluation/analysis happens after.

Well, how do you define trust?

Personally, when I trust someone/something, it means I assume the best credibility of that someone. However, that doesn't mean I'm fully confident of what that someone/something says. It doesn't mean that I'm fully reliant on that someone/something. But what if I do? Then, at the very least, I learn to make reasonable expectation from that someone/something. When I trust, I know I'm taking risks of possible betrayal or disappointment.

If that's the case for you, then you'd probably be able to "trust" WOT. Otherwise, you ought to be looking for something else....

In simple words - I "trust" WOT but only as much as I "trust" my friend's recommendations/words...not as much as I'd trust my parents. I trust myself more than any other person...that far, is guaranteed. If you can't trust yourself, then forget about trusting others...

As far as im concerned WOT is a heads up, a way of stopping you and making you think twice, you can read the views of other people, ultimately the final decision is ours, i for one am happy with some sort of warnings rather than jumping from site to site, common sense should be first on anyones agenda... do i trust WOT completely the answer is no, Mcafee site advisor or Norton web safe, they are all tools at the end of the day, more help than hinderence, Safeguys comments are always worthy of a read, as he uses alot of common sense, as does Ceyfer
    Thank you Weylin.

    well said Safeguy
in my opinion WOT can not be the only factor to decide a website's credibility
normally all the sites i browse are marked safe
and my AVs webguard catches those that are not

WOT is a great tool in my opinion
but even then there are many flaws,
Many perfectly "Alright" sites get blocked inexplicably
then i choose whether to heed the recommendations of WOT, or go with my previous experiences and site reputation

WOT is second opinion at best
you can try Prevx Safeonline to surf even "Unsafe" sites somewhat securely

Nothing can assure "0 false positives" or "0 missed detections"

    Spin

In case you were wondering, I trust McAfee SiteAdvisor far more than WOT.
Here is a case of a recently blocked freebie (from this site) because of the poor reputation from WOT.
    leawo.com

    http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/leawo.com
We tested this site and didn't find any significant problems.

Controversial rating: the ratings for this site are conflicting.
RED: Warning! This site has a poor reputation.

WOT is useful as it flags warez, crack sites in search results. But the system can be abused for personal gains. Similar tool is Norton safe web lite addon but it gives green tick to these dangerous illegal websites. Mcafee Siteadvisor besides testing the site for harmful downloads also check the reputation of the site. So for me, Siteadvisor is better than WOT and Safeweb especially for a newbie computer user. Also now siteadvisor now warns about potentially harmful download. But I don't like much about Mcafee antivirus products though due to their frequent false positive issues.

Wot would you use if you did not use Wot.
Would you just open every site hoping that they are Ok.
What Wot does is warn you that it may be a bad site but it is up to you whether you use that site or not.
Even if it only identifies 75% of bad sites it is better that than using nothing.
If you are happy using nothing best of luck to you.
I am quite happy using Wot as I would certainly not like to pass any bad sites on to anyone looking for help.
