Confused File creation date the same after deleting/re-creating

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this stragne issue that I@m having.
I recently removed two exicutable files from my Downloads folder by using the shift + down arrow method to select, then shift + delete to remove. Both of the files were patches for a program, but one of them was called Patch (2).exe; Firefox named it that because my Downloads folder already contained a file called Patch.exe, which was an older version of the patch file.
After re-downloading the Patch file, I noticed that the creation date of the file was the 6th of December, the same date as the first Patch file.
I've tested this with several more files, which give the same result.
I've never seen this at all, does anyone know what's going on?

Running Win 7 Home Premium X64.

    Thanks.

    Elliott.
