Office 2010 the fastest-selling consumer version of Office in history

At the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, Microsoft revealed that it’s close to selling 16 million copies of Office 2010.

the company is selling about 1 license each second . . .

More than 30 million people use the Office Web Apps to view, edit, and share Office documents from anywhere with a browser and an internet connection.

•Office 2010 now ranks as the fastest-selling consumer version of Office in history, with approximately one copy of Office 2010 sold worldwide every second.

•"For the 8th year in a row, Microsoft Office was the number one selling software product in U.S. retail measured by dollar volume, outpacing games and security software,” Microsoft’s Holly Thomas stated. (emphasis added)
The last bullet really goes to show you the monopoly that microsoft has with their office suite. Office is in corporations, schools, small businesses and in the home of consumers and for many seems like a necessity to have on any computer (which is very debatable).

Interesting news Student, thanks. I still use Home and Student 2007 and am too cheap to upgrade!

Thanks Student26 for share Office 2010 is moderately tweaked version of Office 2007 just as Windows 7 is moderately tweaked version of Windows Vista SP2.

More like a moderately tweaked XP SP4

I never had any luck with Vista, hence why I say that.

Also, I use LibreOffice myself... debated about getting a copy of Office but said 'no, too pricey', even with my student discount.

One thing i noticed about learning Office is the Tech centers only offer Microsoft Office to teach and if you want to do a certifed test the choices are ECDL or MS.. just shows how much MS is embedded with teaching.. The upshot is moving to the likes of LibreOffice offers you a chance not to pay premium prices for tweaked upgrades... although i do use office 2007

Learning or not, I don't have the money for it.

If they paid me to use it, sure, that's fine, I'll do it that way and have [little] issue. But the fact that it's too much to buy, and too heavy... no thanks.

It may not be as popular, but I'm still an Open Office user myself, most likely because I'm a cheapskate!

I wonder how some home users can afford or even still willing to shell out so much cash for an office suite (unless it's necessary for their work). Add that to the fact that the updates/upgrades aren't free...

I certainly wouldn't shell out that kind of money for personal use, but if you run a business, it can be written off as a business expense to save on taxes.
