Cool What is the best place for studying software engineering?

I've been thinking a lot about taking up Software Engineering for an undergraduate course. What is the best place for studying this thing? Or do I have to take up Hardware first? I need good guidance from the techs, so I posted this in here. I'm from India and the location of the university doesn't matter, as long as it's on Earth!

I'm clueless since I'm not from India and I don't pursue such courses. But I think it'd be much of a help to those who may be able to answer your query if you had been more specific/precise as to what kind of qualifications you have, where you live (India is a big country), your budget (courses aren't cheap) etc etc.

I'm from West Bengal, India. Currently, I am unqualified, just about to complete high school. Fees could be taken care of by loans and scholarships, so that won't be a problem. Yesterday I saw MIT offering Electronics and Computer Science courses, but I want to know whether there's any place where that department's better. Like Princeton is the best for Maths, Oxford for English, etc. Wherever be it in the world, that's not a problem.

In Canada, Waterloo is probably the best the school for computer science and computer engineering. Stateside Stanford and MIT are some of the leaders in computer sci.

If you go out of country you'll have to make sure that you have the right qualifications. For example US schools require one to take the SAT test. Of course it'll vary school to school. Also universities generally also charge more tuition for international students.

This site looks like it might be able to help you http://www.arwu.org/

Best of luck in the search.

MIT is the world LEADER of computer science, in North America. Helsinki would get that honor for a reason in EU.

Not sure about North India, but Amrita and VIT are the best ones in the south. Both of them have a merit entrance exam if i was not wrong.
VIT is where cognizant created a world record this year by offering job to 1643 students in one day.
