Anyone thinking of NOT updating toyour browser?
I've been using Firefox V4 beta releases for quite a long time, starting from it's early build if I remembered correctly. It became my default browser during the time I used it. However, I went back to the V3.6.13 and was kind of surprised to notice it's lower performance impact on my system. Maybe all the added goodies in V4 is taking up resources...
To add to that, I got back my sweet Tab Kit add-on which I am quite addicted to. It simply feels good to get back the browsing experience and tab management that I'm well used to (kinda pampered with it actually - there's simply no other alternatives that do as decent a job as it does). Not even Panorama/Tab Candy....
So, this question (thread title) has been popping in and out of my mind. As much as I'm waiting for Firefox V4 final release and hoping that the Tab Kit add-on will be updated to work properly with it, I can't be entirely sure of it. Assuming the worst case scenario, I might have to make a tough decision of clinging onto V3...something that I'm not keen on doing. I might be able to adapt myself to browsing without Tab Kit like I've done when I was using V4 beta releases....but right now, typing all of these and looking to the left side of my browser (that's where the tabs are), I can't help but to feel guilty. Very very guilty. It might sound weird to many here but Tab Kit has redefined the way I work with the web as a whole...it gives me the guilty pleasure of opening tabs like mad and still being able to quickly see how each tab is related to the other.
It's really frustrating...you've managed to get a browser to work just right for you but updates and upgrades keep on making changes to how it works, sometimes for the better but at other times, it breaks certain things. I'm also slowly getting tired of trying out several browsers and add-ons just to make my browsing experience the same as I'm getting right now. Nothing else sits right with me...
I feel very much tempted to just stick to what I have right now and forget all the constant changing....forget all about the vulnerabilities listed in change-log, forget all the 'new' promises of faster browsing speed, this feature and that super-duper cool addition, etc etc. It's really becoming sickening. But it doesn't help when I'm constantly bombarded with posts on forums that reminds me of new releases (e.g. Latest Releases section here) and all those browser war threads....they keep motivating me to change (update browser, or take a look at another).Errggh!!!
So, the question remains: Anyone else thinking of NOT updating your browser?Have you been tempted not to do any updates? Perhaps you're in the same boat as me - something holding you back?
Take note that I'm NOT saying I've made up my mind not to do any updates. Heck, I don't think I can hold on to using an "older" browser for long despite everything I've said so far. It's just my brain muddled up with all of these thoughts and I'm wondering if anyone else does too. I just need to rant so to say.
P.S. Please don't tell me to convert to another browser. I know how to do that on my own.

Funny you mention this Safeguy, im not a firefox user, but internet explorer, i got used to IE7 and although there are the usual security issues as with any big browser i was quite comfortable with it, then they changed it for the better
and i don't like the way it handles so i have changed to Comodo although not the same i can still have it the way i want, it seems with some releases they make changes and think it's the best for the user instead of listening to the people that are using it in the real world.
Like yourself it takes time to adjust to the changes and after a while you wonder why you didn't just change.
They say change is a good thing...... but not always we just adapt and the brain says sod it and gets on with it
Work wise windows 7 is fantastic but i have a softspot for XP and IE7 go figure..
Browsers are a matter of choice and at least there is a fair bit of competition to keep the best of us happy and although i like to try them out i end up going back to that comfort zone.

I'd rather be fishing!
I for one, am not a big fan of change, but life seems to force the issue on me.
I switched over to Windows 7 when it came out, but still keep it in a dual boot with XP and find myself using XP quite often. I haven't upgraded to Firefox v4 myself and probably won't, until the final version is released. Yes, I eventually come around to changing with the times, but not without a lot of foot dragging in the mean time!

I also have been using Firefox 4 since the very 1st beta. And like Safeguy it seems like all my favorite add-ons and themes are slowly going away. I just updated to Firefox 4 beta 10 last night and my favorite theme is unavailable now. Beta 10 is working fine but I miss my add-ons. My wife still uses Firefox v3 and says she is not switching to Firefox 4 not matter what.
I will just have to wait and see what the final version of Firefox 4 has to offer.

By standard technology and innovation were the variables that dictates on which way or path are we going to. On individual perspective: I see nothing wrong on using an outdated technology as a medium for your convenience provided that you knew how to adapt on certain environments and by accepting the risk.
Remember the Internet Explorer 6, which is still in the mainstream use by millions of netizens and recently got a support from British gov't, in spite of several security issues and threats.
If you really want it, then stay on a medium ( regardless of technology status ) that gives you more usability and needed features. Being an early adopter doesn't make you smart at all.

I have W/7 and downloaded I/E9 beta to try and I don't like it.
So started using Firefox with No script and I have been using it ever since.
I will wait and see what others think of Firefox 4 before I decide whether to use it or not.
I/E9 beta has no search bar on it anymore it is funny how a small change like that can put you off from using it.

That was a nice note. I feel like copying it somewhere for backup - maybe even use it elsewhere if I need to. Do you place any copyrights over that?

I got so tired of Firefox using nearly 200MB of memory and the terrible slow down when the database size got really big.
After upgraded to SSD drive, it's no longer a problem anymore and will definitely upgrade.
I guess computer hardware upgrade is inevitable if you're going to keep up with the software/os update.
