Cool Does Windows 7 have Microsoft .NET Framework hidden?

I checked Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel. I don't see .NET Framework in there? I never installed it before. I never been asked to install .NET Framework? Is it hidden in Windows 7?

Hey luffy - It's not actually hidden, it is built-in to Win7 as one of the features so doesn't require a separate download:

Go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features, then click on "Turn Windows features on or off" [from the left hand panel]. You should see it included in the list of features.

.NET Framework can be enabled or disabled from there.

    HTH,
    Cheers....Jim

Some programs may require the .Net Framework to work, either they will warn you first or ask you to download before installation, i have 64bit O/S and to be honest never encountered any problems, back in the day these where big downloads and people complained about the size or refused to use it, if you think this is a problem for you can restore your O/S via system restore.

    Hi luffy,

To check and see if you have Net framework 4.0 installed go to: Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features, then click on "view installed updates". It should show up in the list if it is. At least it does on my PC. Cheers!

Hey luffy - Short answer is No, you don't actually need .NET Framework 4. At least, not for the time being.

Eventually you are probably going to run into a program which needs .NET Framework 4 installed on your machine, in order for the application to run. At that point in time you can choose to either install .NET Framework 4 or look for similar alternative software which doesn't require the .NET Framework.

I am running Win7 64-bit too, I haven't installed v4 yet and probably won't bother...unless, I happen to come across an application I really want which requires v4 in order for it to work.

    Cheers....Jim

You can certainly check with windows as to what .net is installed. But I like this small tool that requires no install:
